About the Cottage

Quarry Cottage has been in the McVey family for over 30 years. It was bought by Jim and Joan McVey and completely renovated in 1993. We continue to make improvements on the cottage from year to year. We've recently put new roofing on the cottage as well as a half bathroom upstairs!

Stonington, Maine

The cottage is located in the town of Stonington on Deer Isle, accessible from the Maine Coast by bridge. The island is a paradise for nature-lovers, hikers, and water enthusiasts. Local nature conservancies provide opportunities to many beautiful hiking trails. Adults and children alike enjoy bringing or renting kayaks to paddle among the many small islands and explore the quiet coves.

A short walk to downtown offers unique shops, art galleries, and restaurants.  There are several beach areas nearby, including Sand Beach which is approximately 1.5 miles from the cottage. 

Right down the street from the cottage is a playground, basketball court and baseball diamond. Every Friday morning next to this recreation area, Stonington locals sell an amazing array of local art, crafts and produce at the Farmer's Market.

Daily ferry service to Isle-au-Haut, a part of Acadia National Park, is available from the Stonington pier downtown. An expedition to Isle-au-Haut provides fond memories and a glimpse of life on this well-known island.

The Stonington Opera House is a thriving center for the arts. It shows popular movies, has live musical performances, and hosts local and national drama productions.

Stonington is an active lobstering community and a great place for a vacation!
